| Gentle hands can work wonders when your body is in pain. Dr. Jonathan B. Sevy, DC, is one of the founders of the self-chiropractic movement. His website, called "Healing Hands 2 Billion," www.chiromoms.com, aims at worldwide health and healing through gentle chiropractic techniques you can do yourself, called "chiro touch."
Dr. Karl V. Holmquist, DC, a fourth-generation chiropractor offers a comprehensive home study handbook and video DVD course ($95.00 in 2009) "Home Chiropractic" at www.home-chiropractic.com. He believes extended series of office visits are too expensive for regular patients.
Dr. Sevy's website, Healing Hands 2 Billion, illustrates how to do chiropractic adjustments yourself to the neck and back. Minor subluxation causes headaches. That is, two upper vertebrae in the neck have become slightly misaligned. Pain and constriction mark the subluxation. "Support the forehead against one hand and probe the back of the neck with the other hand. Move the head up, down and sideways. Use the fingers to probe for tender areas called trigger points," Dr. Sevy's site instructs. "Apply gentle steady pressure for fifteen seconds to each point and release." The pain will increase and gradually lessen; so will the headache. The manipulation flushes the area with oxygen and blood, which speeds healing. Massaging the temples, cheekbones and jaw is helpful as well.
According to Dr. Sevy, "back pain subluxation responds well to the mid-back chiro touch." Have the person in pain lie on a hard bench or the floor. Kneel or stand next to his or her back. Place your hand near the right of the spinal column, at mid back (to do a clockwise manipulation). Point the fingers towards the neck. Place the other hand one half inch below, to the left side of the spine. Point the fingers towards the feet. Softly bounce the palms flat against the body three to five times. Repeat the adjustment one inch above and below the original adjustment site. Change hand direction (to a counterclockwise adjustment). Point fingers in the opposite direction. Repeat all the steps. "Flat palm manipulation frees the subluxation, speeding healing to the tissues." Back pain usually requires a series of adjustments.
For a variation, place both hands mid-back pointing towards the head. "Push the palm pads of both hands towards the neck and collar bone. End with three to five soft bounces."
chiropractic marketing Dr. Sevy's chiro touch is useful throughout the body. Apply gentle pressure to tender trigger points in back muscles. There are many ways to use chiropractic basics yourself.
The spine is like the wiring harness in a car. It connects to every electrical nerve impulse and every major organ. Trigger points act like an internal blueprint for your fingers. According to Dr. Sevy's site, "apply steady pressure to painful areas. The pain will deepen and go away. Find trigger points on the neck, back, thorax, arm, leg and foot muscles."
See your chiropractor at least once. Your doctor can supply you with gentle methods and exercises. Dr.Tracey Roizman, DC, DACBN, writes, "Chiropractic manipulations can activate receptors inside the muscles and joints. The receptors grow dormant, because of nerve inactivity. Chiropractic manipulation stimulates parts of the brain connected to the dormant body receptors. Stimulation between the receptors signals nerve activity. When the brain is activated it causes a healthy brain and body relationship." Self-chiropractic is a strong at-home tool for personal health and pain relief, with the advice of a chiropractor.

| Let me introduce you to a boring, nerdy topic called "Tissue Loading". Hooray tissue loading!
Listen, I know this is a little boring, but if you stay with me, I'll make it worthwhile. Knowing what this stuff means may save you from losing your job and going on disability for the rest of your life, so it would benefit you to pay attention.
"Tissues" in the body are a way of saying "parts" or "structures" in the body. If you tear a muscle, for example, they'll say you have "torn muscle tissues". Torn tissues are like Kleenex tissues, they make you want to cry. Avoiding the tearing and injury to various body "tissues" like muscles, tendons, and ligaments is very important.
There are two ways that tissues can break from stress. One way, the way we probably think about the most, involves something hitting you with such speed and force that they break your tissues and hurt you. The second way, however, is having small stresses hit your tissues over and over and over again, until after a period of time your tissues can't handle any more stress, and they break.
It's a lot like a flat tire. There are 2 basic ways to get a flat tire. If you take a sharp knife and stab the tire, even if it's a brand new tire will become flat and useless in a matter of seconds. But if I drive on the tire for 50,000 miles, the tire will become so thin from being worn out that it will burst and I will have the same problem as the tire that was stabbed.
You see, any stress, no matter how small, if repeated enough times will eventually become a huge problem. The 10,000 times that you bent over improperly to pick up a pencil, you were fine, but when you bent over that 10,001 time, your spine reached its breaking point, and you tore a disc or muscle or whatever, and you're in terrible pain.
That's why people are so surprised when they get hurt. I hear it all of the time. "Doc, all I did was bend over to pick up a pen that I dropped, and I couldn't stand up. I used to play high school football, are you telling me that this stupid pen broke my back"
Nope. I'm telling you that bad "back habits" wore out your spine until it was paper thin, like that tire, and it was a matter of time until you did something very slight to reach the "tissue load capacity" and hurt yourself.
The difference between a tire and a human being is that the human being is always healing. Even if you put a lot of stress on your back, your body is always trying to heal itself. If you do or move in some way you shouldn't, as long as you don't keep doing that over and over again you should be fine. Your body will heal faster than you can break it, and you'll never have back pain.
Unfortunately, if you're reading this report, you probably don't belong to that lucky group. You belong to the group of people who continually exceed the load capacity of your tissues, and are in frequent or constant pain.
Well, if tissue loading is the problem we're having, what should we do to avoid loading our tissues
What I have done is put together what is called "The Rehabilitation Sequence." The rehab sequence is an easy way to explain what needs to be done to properly treat low back pain. The rehabilitation sequence, or for our purposes we'll call it TRS, is method of treatment born from what we have learned from scientific studies and research as to the exact causes and ideal treatment of tough low back pain cases. These studies were performed and supervised by medical doctors and PhD's. TRS has nothing to do with physical therapy, or chiropractic, or massage, or anything specific to one group of practitioners. Unfortunately, each of those different therapists graduate school with specific beliefs about treating spinal pain, and usually these beliefs are either a small part of the entire story or they're just outright incorrect. That's why it is so tough to answer the question, "Who should I go to help with my low back pain." The type of doctor is irrelevant. I know physical therapists, chiropractors, and even a personal trainer with a license to use manual manipulation who closely follow TRS with great results. The license on the wall doesn't matter. What matters is if the doctor stays current on what research and scientific evidence say works or doesn't work for low back treatment. Anyway, TRS, when laid out in steps, looks a little like this: 1) Control Symptoms 2) Mobilize Fixated (stuck) Spinal Joints 3) Break Up Soft Tissue Fibrosis (knots in muscles) 4) Train Spinal Balance And Control 5) Strengthen Mass Movement If you do all five of these steps, it is likely the patient will get better. If the therapist skips one or more of the steps, there is a greater chance that you will not heal fully or properly, and this increases the chances of you reinjuring yourself or suffering from chronic never-ending pain. Let's review the steps in order and talk about why each one is important. Control Symptoms. Medical doctors do very well with #1. I refer to MD's often if the patient is in severe pain and there isn't much I can do for them in the beginning. The problem with #1 is that if you ignore the other four steps there is a good chance the patient won't heal properly, and then you're stuck with chronic pain that won't go away no matter how many drugs you take. I am a realist. I understand that people have to sleep and have to go to work. If people need medication to get through the initial stages of pain, I'm all for it. Just understand that turning off signals of pain with drugs is a lot different than treating the problem that's causing the pain in the first place. Mobilize Fixated Joints. When you hurt your back, muscles surrounding the injured area will tighten up to brace the joint, kind of like putting a broken arm in a cast. That's fine when you first get hurt, but over time those joints eventually have to start moving better if you want to heal. Joint manipulation is a great way to get fixated joints moving better. But, let me ask you a question. If you visit a chiropractor who lays you on a table, puts a hot pack on your for 5 minutes, and then comes in and cracks your back in 60 seconds and you're done, well, did the doctor cover all five steps No, really they only took care of #2. Unfortunately, according to a multitude of studies, spinal manipulation by itself has limited benefits for neck and back pain. That's why we must do all five steps if we want the patient to recover. Break Up Soft Tissue Fibrosis (knots in muscles). Like I said before, muscles will tighten up to brace a joint injury. That's fine in the beginning, but muscles that are tight for long periods of time will develop scar tissue which feels like bumps in the muscle or 'knots'. These 'knots' must be broken up so that the muscle regains its former flexibility and strength to help you move and protect your joints. Plus, knots hurt, so its just feels better to get rid of them. If you visit a massage therapist, and they take care of #3 by working on your muscles for you, is that good For a muscle strain, like a hamstring pull or shoulder problems or 'tennis elbow' it's perfect! For tough spinal problems the research suggests that by itself it often isn't enough. Balance, control, and strength. This is done with exercise. Muscles move your body but they also play an important role in protecting your spine when you move. If spinal movement isn't controlled properly you run the risk of tearing something in the disc and this usually results in a LOT of pain. What about physical therapy PT's do a great job with #4 and #5. However, a good deal of PT's do some heat, maybe a little stretching, and then exercises. It is very difficult to do these exercises properly if your spinal joints and muscles aren't working properly, and many times you need work done on these parts to get them to work well enough to perform the exercises. Otherwise, you'll be forced to do the exercises improperly just to get through them, and you greatly increase the chances that you won't heal fully and eventually suffer from a chronic condition. Sometimes you'll see a PT or a chiropractor who also has a massage therapist. This is better, since they'll either satisfy #3, #4, and #5 or the chiropractor's case #2 and #3. But still, you're left with the problem of not covering all five points, which isn't ideal. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the overwhelming majority of studies and research have strongly indicated that a combination of the five (or really #2 through #5, not everyone needs medication) consistently yields the best results in terms of short and long term pain relief. | | |

| Other body pains are also caused by misalignment of the spine. These are soreness on the shoulder and arms, migraines, tension headaches, pains on the legs, feet, hips and knees, abdominal and chest pains, menstrual pains, etc. You may be wondering the relation of these pains to our vertebra. Well, it is because our spine directly and indirectly irritates the nerves in our body.
Chiropractic deals with this issue. chiropractic marketing A misaligned spine is characterized by subluxations or obstructions that cause the irritation of the nerves in our body and thus affect its functions. These obstructions minimize the body's function to work properly. It is the work of a chiropractor to correct these obstructions in order to bring back bodily functions in their right state to work appropriately.
Have you ever wondered why an elderly stoops What was the cause of this curving of the spine Does it follow that when a person gets old, the spine will curve as well Is there a thing like a healthy spine How can one achieve it Do you see yourself in that state where you will have to be bending, too for you just can no longer stand up straight
Imbalance movements: Start by turning your head slowly to the right then to the left. It will be better to have another person watch you when doing this activity. Observe. Is there fluidity in doing the turns Do you experience rigidity Alternatively, do you feel any restriction while turning your head from side to side You can also do this on your lower and middle back.
Check your posture: We always do this. Remember when you were told to put books on top of your head and walk holding your head up high. The best way to do this is to have a full-length mirror. Is your head angled to one side Check your shoulders. Are they leveled or the right is higher than the left Move on to your hips chiro marketing. Are they even or uneven Shoulders and hips must both be equal. If one is higher than the other, then it is a sure indication that you have spinal misalignment; hence, it requires a chiropractor's expertise. The head, of course, must be in the middle and not angled.
Stressed muscles: If you feel some tightness on your neck and shoulder muscles, it means that you are having vertebral strain for quite some time. This tense muscles need to be loosened up.
Have a check on your shoes: If you notice that the heel part is worn out just on one side, it obviously says that you have an imbalance. You are not walking properly, which can be due to low back, knee, ankle or hip issues.
